Job summary

Silicon Quantum Computing Pty Ltd in Sydney is seeking a Platform Engineer to own monitoring and telemetry across on-prem clusters, Ceph storage, core network services, the HPC and simulation environments, the quantum runtime cluster and its FPGA mesh, AWS footprint and on-site shipping clusters.

The role focuses on observability to drive real decisions, with a preference for reducing noisy alerts and ensuring reproducibility of workloads for researchers and engineers instrumenting their own

Qualifications

• Own the observability stack end-to-end with metrics, logs, traces and alerting.
• Experience with Prometheus/Grafana at scale and long-term storage.
• Production log pipelines with Loki or OpenSearch/ELK.
• OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing in real systems.
• Alerting design with on-call ownership and low-noise signals.
• Kubernetes depth including workloads, networking, storage, RBAC.

Responsibilities

• Own the monitoring and telemetry platform end to end across clusters, storage, network and cloud.
• Instrument platform services including Kubernetes, Ceph, CI/CD, GitHub Enterprise, Artifactory and Vault.
• Make utilisation visible to inform scheduling and hardware purchases.
• Design alerts with specific actions and retire noisy alerts.
• Support observability needs of the quantum runtime cluster, including FPGA telemetry.
• Extend monitoring to each cluster, including air-gapped sites.
• Handle data engineering of observability at scale: cardinality, sampling, retention and cost.
• Define and measure service levels for internal platform services.
• Build on-call tooling and runbooks, and improve them after incidents.
• Help teams instrument their systems with libraries, conventions and defaults.
• Correlate telemetry across domains to answer cross-cutting research questions.
• Support incident response and post-incident reviews and document platform conventions.
