Job summary

SQC Silicon Quatum Computing in Sydney NSW is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer, focused on the physical and network layer of our platform. You will rack, wire, provision bare-metal clusters, and integrate them into reproducible code workflows for the quantum computing environment.

You will operate Kubernetes on hardware, build Ansible-driven pipelines, and collaborate with IT, facilities and R&D to scale on‑premise compute as we grow toward multiple edge clusters.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in infrastructure, network or platform engineering with hands-on bare-metal work
• Deep Ansible experience: roles, inventories, idempotent design
• Solid Layer 2/3 network skills: VLANs, routing, firewalls
• Strong Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python)
• IaC beyond CM (Terraform/OpenTofu/Pulumi) and Git workflows
• Production Kubernetes experience, ideally on hardware you own
• Bare-metal provisioning tools: MaaS, Metal3, OpenStack Ironic, Tinkerbell, xCAT
• Firmware/BMC management (IPMI or Redfish)
• Core services: DNS, DHCP, NTP; PXE and netboot
• Comfort in data centre environments: racking, cabling, timestamps
• On-call rotation for production services
• Clear technical writing and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Own bare-metal cluster fleets end-to-end: racking, cabling, provisioning, firmware and BMC management
• Design, build and operate network infrastructure: switching, routing, VLANs, firewall policies, high-speed fabrics
• Drive infrastructure-as-code with Ansible so builds are repeatable
• Build automated provisioning pipelines from power-on to ready cluster
• Assemble cluster specs for quantum computers and labs
• Run Kubernetes on hardware: CNI, load balancing, storage integration
• Manage core network services: DNS, DHCP, NTP, PXE
• Support hardware bring-up: BIOS, firmware tuning, BMC config
• Assist compute/control/lab hardware used by R&D teams
• Instrument servers, fabric and provisioning path for telemetry
• Plan capacity, power, cooling and rack layout with facilities
• Monitor and troubleshoot platform health; document architecture and procedures
