Job summary

Magentus is hiring for a platform engineer to own services across the stack, from infrastructure to frontend. You’ll work with peers to deliver robust, scalable healthcare tech on AWS and modern IaC.

We value engineers who push architectural boundaries, integrate AI for productivity, and contribute to open source. The role supports hybrid work with a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Strong experience building and shipping production software - you've owned services, not just tickets.
• Hands-on with: TypeScript/Node.js, AWS, and infrastructure as code (CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform)
• Confidence to challenge ideas and contribute to technical decisions
• Hands on experience with AI-assisted development & AI agents
• Bonus: React, Ruby on Rails, identity and federated SSO (Cognito, OIDC/SAML), application security, or experience in healthcare and other regulated environments

About the Role

We're a global health tech company delivering clinical systems across pathology, radiology, oncology, and maternity in Australia, the UK, and Europe.

Our cloud platform, Gentu, is used by thousands of specialists every day and we're investing heavily in what it becomes next.

This is a platform role for a software engineer. Not a DevOps role with a new title. The engineers who do best on this team take a service from an empty repo to production and own every layer of it - the CDK stacks and the VPC, the database schema and the ORM, the API routes and the background workers, and the React in front of them. Then they turn what they learned into something the rest of engineering can reuse.

What you'll own:

• Services, not slices. Infrastructure, data layer, API, and the frontend on top - you'll work across all of it, alongside engineers who do the same.
• Real architectural decisions on the platform thousands of clinicians depend on. We expect engineers to have opinions on how we evolve it.
• Identity, security and reliability as part of the job, not a separate team's queue. Some sprints that's a customer-facing integration, others it's hardening something before it bites us.
• The leverage. The tooling, pipelines and agentic workflows that make every other engineer faster. Build it once, the whole team gets it.

What we’re looking for:

Builders and creators by instinct. You tinker. You might contribute to open source, ship side projects, or spin things up just to see how they work. The engineers we want are the ones who never stopped making things for the love of it - we actively encourage it.

We're also looking for someone who has genuinely changed how they work with AI, not just added it to a toolbar. We value engineers who use AI beyond simple code generation. Whether that's creating agents, automating workflows, or building tools that make the wider team more effective, we're interested in people who see AI as a practical way to increase impact.

You'll bring:
