Job summary

Public Sector People is seeking a Manager Planning and Land Management based in Emerald to lead the Planning & Land Management team, ensure compliance with planning and building regulations, and provide strategic land use planning for the council region in Queensland.

The role includes acting as the mining liaison officer, managing development assessments, policy implementation and community engagement, with a focus on efficient service delivery and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Town Planning or similar.
• Local government experience.
• Strong knowledge of Queensland planning legislation.
• Excellent knowledge of building, plumbing, planning laws and codes.
• Experience in ranger services and rural land management.
• Leadership, business and project management capabilities.
• Policy development and implementation experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Queensland driver’s license (C-class).

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Planning & Land Management team with strategic direction.
• Oversee development assessment, land use planning and planning scheme amendments.
• Regulate building and plumbing compliance and related statutory functions.
• Provide expert advice on Queensland planning legislation and codes of practice.
• Oversee ranger services, rural land practices and environmental health functions.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures to improve efficiency and compliance.
• Prepare complex reports and advise senior management and elected representatives.
• Manage projects, budgets, resources and service delivery outcomes.
• Act as mining liaison to facilitate discussions on new/existing mining operations and closures.
• Drive continuous improvement and risk management across the section.
