Job summary

NSW Health's SCHN Westmead is seeking a Senior Social Worker to provide a comprehensive social work service for children, young people and families in adolescent medicine. You will undertake psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling, and advocacy within a multidisciplinary team.

The role also involves leading service development and education programs for social workers and health professionals, with a focus on quality improvement. After-hours on-call duties may be required.

Qualifications

• Eligibility for AASW membership with postgraduate experience in social work with families and children.
• Substantial postgraduate experience in social work with children and families.
• Knowledge of psychosocial challenges facing families in clinical settings and knowledge of community resources.
• Experience in psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counselling and group work.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience in clinical supervision, education activities, service planning and quality improvement.
• Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
• Capacity to share after-hours and weekend on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive social work service to children, young people and families referred from the clinical area.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling, group work, psycho-education and advocacy.
• Lead service development and continuous quality improvement to meet clinical needs.
• Develop and provide education programs for social workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally.
• Provide consultative role within specialization to key stakeholders.
