The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is seeking a Senior Information Access and Privacy Officer to join the Information Access and Privacy team in Parramatta.

You will provide expert advice on information access and privacy, support compliance across the department, and handle complex access applications under GIPA Act and privacy issues under PPIP and Health Records laws.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Officer to join the Information Access and Privacy team. The team plays a key role in supporting transparency, accountability and compliance across the department by delivering information access and privacy functions under NSW legislation. The Senior Information Access and Privacy Officer provides specialist advice and support to the department and supported agencies on complex and sensitive information access and privacy issues. You will make decisions on applications for access to information under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) on a wide variety of topics, and conduct privacy internal reviews and respond to breaches under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act) and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. You will provide advice and assistance across the department to ensure compliance with the agency's privacy responsibilities and open access requirements. You will also assist with the delivery of training to ensure staff are aware of their information access and privacy obligations and contribute to continuous improvement projects.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to provide authoritative advice and recommendations across a large and complex organisation. Your exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills will be critical as you collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. You will be proactive with advanced organisational skills and ability to take on feedback and direction, whilst working autonomously to ensure the delivery of objectives against critical deadlines. You will also ideally have prior experience interpreting and providing advice on legislation. Working knowledge and experience in either the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 or the Health Records and Health Records Act 2002 is preferred, but not essential for the role.
