Job summary

IT Alliance Australia is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to lead Cisco ACI and Fortinet deployments in a Melbourne-based hybrid environment. The role requires hands-on experience in APIC, fabric policies, and FortiGate firewalls, with a focus on secure, scalable enterprise networks.

The successful candidate will work on production changes, document architecture, and collaborate with stakeholders across Defence/government sectors as needed. Australian PR is preferred; 6-month contract initially.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Cisco ACI in enterprise/data center environments.
• Fortinet FortiGate administration and security features.
• Strong routing knowledge including BGP/OSPF and general TCP/IP networking.

Responsibilities

• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco ACI fabric (APIC, leaf/spine, contracts, EPGs).
• Administer Fortinet FortiGate firewalls and SASE products.
• Troubleshoot networks using packet captures and logs; perform root-cause analysis and remediation.
• Follow formal change-management processes for production changes.
• Document network designs and communicate updates to stakeholders.

One of our clients is seeking to engage Senior Network Engineer – Cisco ACI & Fortinet for Melbourne -Hybrid

Senior Network Engineer – Cisco ACI & Fortinet

• 6 months

Technical skills:

• Strong recent, hands-on experience with Cisco ACI in complex enterprise or data centre environments (APIC, leaf/spine architecture, tenants, VRFs, Bridge Domains, EPGs, contracts and filters, L2Out/L3Out, fabric policies, Multi-Pod/Multi-Site).
• Strong hands-on experience administering Fortinet FortiGate firewalls (firewall policies, NAT, IPsec and SSL VPN, HA, security profiles, FortiManager and/or FortiAnalyzer).
• Advanced knowledge of routing protocols including BGP and OSPF, plus strong TCP/IP and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking (VLANs, VRFs, segmentation, high-availability architectures).
• Strong network troubleshooting using packet captures, logs and diagnostic tools, with root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.
• Experience implementing changes in production environments using formal change-management processes.
• Strong technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills

Desirable previous experience of:

• Cisco certifications (CCNP Data Center, CCNP Enterprise or CCIE) and/or Fortinet certifications (FCP, FCSS or NSE equivalent).
• Cisco Nexus switching and VXLAN/EVPN.
• Integrating ACI with Fortinet or other next-generation firewall platforms.
• Network automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform or REST APIs.
• Cloud networking across Azure and/or AWS.
• Government, Defence or critical infrastructure environments, including knowledge of the Australian Government ISM and Essential Eight.
