Job summary

Yancoal Australia is seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to lead long-term planning and project delivery at Ashton, a multi-seam underground mine. You will manage mine scheduling, life-of-mine reporting, and key design work using AutoCAD and XPAC, with strong emphasis on ventilation projects and dewatering.

Requires a Mining Engineering degree and 5+ years in similar roles; XPAC, Excel, and MS Project proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (essential).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar underground coal mine role.
• Experience with Microsoft Project, XPAC, Excel and AutoCAD.
• Ventilation Officer qualification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan for surface and underground projects across a multi-seam longwall mine.
• Mine scheduling with monthly and annual forecasts using Excel and XPAC.
• Whole-of-Mine reporting (life-of-mine and mine closure).
• Mine design using AutoCAD and ProgeCAD; lead ventilation and dewatering projects.

Located 14 km northwest of Singleton, Ashton underground mine has been operational for nearly 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 300 people across our surface and underground operations.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this is a full-time fixed-term opportunity that will see the successful applicant play a key role in the planning and delivery of mining engineering projects and activities including but not limited to:

• Medium to long-term planning for a variety of surface and underground projects at a multi-seam longwall mine producing semi-soft coking coal
• Mine scheduling with responsibility for monthly and annual forecasts using both Excel and XPAC software
• Whole-of-Mine reporting (life-of-mine and mine closure)
• Mine design (AutoCAD, ProgeCAD)
• Project work such as ventilation and gas drainage, subsidence remediation and mine dewatering

Skills and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (essential)
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role at an underground coal mine
• Experience and competence with Microsoft Project, XPAC, Excel and AutoCAD
• Ventilation Officer qualification is highly desirable
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Team player with strong leadership skills
