Yancoal Australia Ltd is seeking an experienced Underground Mechanical Tradesperson to join their team in the beautiful Mudgee area of New South Wales. The successful candidate will work closely with the Engineering Department to maintain mechanical infrastructure and plant equipment.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The Underground Mechanical Tradesperson will work closely with the Engineering Department to install, commission, overhaul and maintain mechanical infrastructure and plant and equipment at the mine. The role will work in collaboration with Mechanical Supervisors, Outbye/Development/Longwall Engineers and the Mechanical Engineering Manager. Reporting to the Shift Area Leader (Undermanager), responsibilities include:

• Conduct effective maintenance and fault‑finding work on mechanical systems
• Monitor mechanical equipment to ensure it remains fit‑for‑purpose and safe condition
• Operate machinery as part of a multi‑skilled workforce

Qualifications – Essential Criteria

• Underground coal mining experience or relevant heavy industry plant experience
• Relevant qualifications – mechanical trade qualification
• A professional work ethic and the ability to strive for continuous improvement
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
• Experience with promoting a positive safety culture within the mine
• Sound planning, organisation and problem‑solving skills

Qualifications – Desirable Criteria

• Post‑trade hydraulics
• High risk work licences
• AS3584 explosion‑protected engine systems (DES)
