Job summary

North Queensland Hardfacing (NQHF) in North Queensland seeks a highly experienced Mechanical Technician to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role covers maintenance, repair, and support across our wear‑packages for buckets and related equipment.

You will maintain and repair equipment, prepare drawings, perform root‑cause analysis, troubleshoot, and help ensure safety and regulatory compliance while working across Burdekin, Mackay, Mount Isa and the Hunter region.

Qualifications

• Trade qualifications and 5+ years proven relevant experience.
• Ability to diagnose, repair and maintain mechanical equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to read manuals, schematics and diagrams.
• Physically fit and able to work in varying conditions.
• Excellent attention to detail and proactive maintenance.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Self-motivated, organised and reliable.
• Commitment to safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair equipment.
• Prepare drawings and designs for mechanical work.
• Perform root cause analysis and diagnose machine breakdowns.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues.
• Install and repair mechanical spare parts.
• Overhaul equipment with/without external contractors.
• Disassemble/assemble, test and report on equipment.
• Ensure safety, process and utility equipment compliance.
• Assist with rigging and lifting heavy machinery.
• Document maintenance activities.
• Support improvement projects.
