Job summary

Dawson Mine in Queensland seeks a Maintenance Superintendent: Engineering MEM to join the maintenance leadership team on a 6-month fixed-term basis with Anglo American. You will oversee MEM statutory responsibilities, develop maintenance strategies, and ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment performance across the site.

Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will lead the MEM discipline, drive strategic initiatives, and align with Life of Mine planning.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline (e.g. Master of Engineering Management).
• Obtained or working toward Practicing Certificate for Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM).
• Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2, G3).
• RPEQ accreditation in Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
• iCam Facilitator is desirable.
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, OEM knowledge (CAT & Komatsu) and heavy machinery used in mining operations.
• Demonstrated capability in a progressive leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability in project management for a mine site (coal preferred), including leading projects whilst working independently.
• Previous experience with SAP or a similar ERP will be desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identify and address mechanical challenges.
• Adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic mechanical engineering initiatives aligned with the Engineering and Maintenance Strategy.
• Act as Statutory Mechanical Engineer for the site, ensuring compliance with SHMS obligations and standards.
• Represent the mechanical discipline in Life of Mine planning and risk assessments.
• Approve mechanical inputs into LOM equipment strategies and risk-based maintenance plans.
• Provide leadership for mechanical contributions to capital planning and asset forecasts.
• Oversee development of mechanical maintenance procedures and rebuild standards.
• Provide statutory oversight for commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Support maintenance teams through strategy adherence and defect management.
• Govern contracts involving mechanical scope.
• Lead mechanical input into performance reporting and RCA reviews.
• Oversee decommissioning and care/maintenance strategies.
