Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice seeks a Senior Tradesperson - Mechanical Fitter at Parklea Correctional Centre. You will lead a maintenance team, coordinate preventive and corrective activities, and mentor inmates through practical training while ensuring safe and efficient operations.

You will oversee labour allocation, uphold security and safety standards, and drive continuous improvement across the facility, supporting rehabilitation and future employment opportunities.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in mechanical fitting or related engineering trade (minimum Certificate III).
• Current Certificate III in Correctional Practice or ability to complete within 12 months.
• Ability and willingness to work across trades as required.
• Current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to drive a vehicle for the role.
• Experience meeting the key accountabilities and focus capabilities as detailed in the role description.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop Overseers and work teams to meet objectives.
• Plan and coordinate maintenance activities with allocated resources and timelines.
• Mentor inmates through practical training to build skills and work readiness.
• Monitor quality and timeliness of maintenance services and drive improvements.
• Ensure work complies with policies, security and probity requirements.
• Maintain a safe, compliant workplace for staff, contractors and inmates.
