Job summary

GPA Engineering seeks a Senior/Mechanical Engineer with a strong water and wastewater background to provide mechanical leadership across industrial projects, focusing on pumps and piping systems. You will contribute across concept through construction, with opportunities for team leadership and client management.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of relevant experience, are comfortable in a consulting environment, and meet Australian Standards and client expectations.

About the Role:

GPA is looking for a Senior/Mechanical Engineer experienced in the water and wastewater industry. In this role, you will provide mechanical leadership across industrial projects with a strong focus on pumps, pump stations, pipelines, and piping systems.

GPA is seeking candidates with +4 years of relevant experience, ideally having experience delivering water and wastewater projects. GPA’s Engineers are expected to have a range of technical and soft skills to perform the role, as listed below. Applicants with lesser experience are expected to possess some of the skills and show strong potential to build on the others.

Key Duties

  • Support hydraulic system design, including typical in-line components across concept, feasibility, detailed design and construction support.
  • Support project delivery of GPA’s Mechanical Team – specifically the mining, water and wastewater industry.
  • Develop and review key deliverables including datasheets, specifications, scopes of work, design reports, calculations and drawings.
  • Provide technical leadership on pump selection and system design (e.g., duty/standby philosophies, hydraulics, NPSH, controls/interfaces, operability and maintainability).
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces (process, civil/structural, electrical/EI&C and drafting).
  • Drive Safety in Design, constructability and brownfield integration.
  • Mentor and uplift capability across the team and support junior engineers.
  • Familiar with the relevant client and Australian Standards.
  • Familiar with project estimating and leading proposals.
Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, we are seeking for candidates with passion for quality engineering and client outcomes, great attention to details, and with the following relevant experience:

  • Strong background in industrial mechanical engineering within mining, water and wastewater industry (sustaining capital/brownfield experience highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated capability leading pumps, pipelines and piping scopes (design, reviews, vendor engagement and delivery coordination).
  • Technical experience, ideally working in a consulting environment – delivering brownfields projects
  • Outgoing – client facing, project engineer experience with a desire to build long term – lasting relationships with clients
  • Experience delivering work in line with Australian legislation, Australian Standards, client specifications and industry norms.
  • Confidence working across project fundamentals: scope definition, cost/schedule inputs, and effective collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach—comfortable engaging with clients, operations teams, contractors and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage own workload across multiple projects
  • Australian recognised Mechanical Engineering degree and CPEng are essential.

A requirement for this role is to complete a satisfactory pre-employment medical check and Australian police clearance.
