Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Launch Operations) to design, analyse, verify and document the mechanical systems for launch site ground support equipment, using CAD and FEA tools. You will own delivery timelines from conception to qualification, and coordinate fabrication and commissioning of GSE.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering with 6+ years in mechanical design, CAD and hardware, plus experience with FEA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 6+ years of mechanical design and analysis experience.
  • 6+ years CAD experience designing parts and assemblies.
  • 3+ years with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics package.
  • 6+ years hands-on hardware experience in fabrication, assembly, integration or testing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyse, verify and document the mechanical aspects of Launch Site Mechanical Ground System and GSE, using CAD and FEA software.
  • Design Mechanical ground support equipment to aid integration and testing of the mechanical systems.
  • Own end-to-end product delivery timelines from conception to qualification.
  • Review specifications and data for mechanical packages and produce O&M documentation.
  • Create drawings, calculations, reports, and project documentation for new and upgraded GSE.
  • Lead and support commissioning of mechanical systems with procedures and checklists.
  • Fault-find and rectify Mechanical GSE faults.
  • Coordinate fabrication, assembly and integration of Mechanical GSE.
  • Support launch preparations and launch operations.
  • Operate and maintain ground support structure equipment for the Bowen Orbital Spaceport.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space
  • Design, analyse, verify and document themechanicalaspectsofLaunch Site MechanicalGround System and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) including launch fluid tower, test standsandsupporting infrastructureusing CAD and FEA software.
  • Design Mechanical ground support equipment to aid integration and testing of the Mechanical systems.
  • Own end-to-end product delivery timelines through conception, design, assembly, and qualification.
  • Review specifications and other data integral to mechanical packages and produce O&M documentation for new equipment.
  • Create drawings, calculations, reports, and project documentation to support design, test, construction and commissioning of new and upgraded mechanical ground support equipment.
  • Leadandsupport commissioning ofMechanical Systems by developing written procedures and checklists for performing test & commissioning operations asrequired.
  • Faultfind and perform rectification of Mechanical GSE
  • Coordinatethefabrication,assemblyandintegrationofMechanicalGSE
  • Support launch preparations and launch operations.
  • Operate and maintain ground support structure equipment for the Bowen Orbital Spaceport.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience with mechanical design and analysis in a professional setting (excluding internships).
  • 6+ years of experience with CAD, designing parts and assemblies.
  • 3+ years of experience with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package.
  • 6+ years of hands‑on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly, integration and/or testing.
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Chartered Engineer (CPEng) and/or RPEQ status or demonstrated progress toward professional registration.
  • Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex aerospace or mechanical systems.
  • Analytical/scientific programming experience (Python, Matlab, Excel, etc).
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary systems.
  • Experience with structural testing.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering processes.
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T. Eligibility to obtain a NV1 Security Clearance.

  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
