Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies in Bowen, Queensland seeks an Integration Technician (Launch Operations) to install and integrate structural components, perform precision assembly, and support launch-site readiness. You will interface with propulsion, avionics, and ground-support systems, ensuring quality workmanship and safety.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • 3 years relevant hands-on mechanical assembly or structural integration experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical procedures.
  • Working understanding of tools, fasteners, torquing, measurement, and inspection.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • NV1 Security Clearance eligible

Responsibilities

  • Install and integrate structural components, panels, brackets, frames, interstages, fairings, and associated hardware.
  • Perform precision assembly, fastening, torquing, shimming, alignment, and fit-up of flight hardware; apply sealant and protective coatings.
  • Interface management to ensure components interface with propulsion, avionics, payload, electrical, thermal, and ground-support systems.
  • Use precision measurement equipment and metrology systems to verify dimensions, alignment, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections and verify workmanship against drawings and procedures.
  • Identify defects or deviations and support troubleshooting and corrective actions with engineering/quality teams.
  • Support testing, launch-site activities, and configuration control with accurate build records.
  • Set up and operate assembly tooling, lifting equipment, fixtures, torque tools, and measurement equipment.
  • Follow safety and environmental procedures to minimize impact

  • Structural integration:Install and integrate structural components, panels, brackets, frames,interstages, fairings, and associated hardware.
  • Mechanical assembly:Perform precision assembly, fastening, torquing, shimming, alignment, and fit-up of flight hardware.Apply sealant,protective coatingsand,adhesives.
  • Interface management:Ensure structural components correctly interface with propulsion, avionics, payload, electrical, thermal, and ground-support systems.
  • Alignment & measurement:Use precision measurement equipment, tooling, fixtures, and metrology systems to verify dimensions, alignment, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Inspection & quality:Conduct visual and dimensional inspections and verify workmanship against drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Non-conformance support:Identifydefects or deviations, document them, and support engineering/quality teams with troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Test support:Support structural, pressure, vibration/environmentaland propulsion testing, functional checks, and launch-site activities.
  • Configuration control:Maintainaccuratebuild records, inspection documentation,componenttraceability, and configuration statusas per Gilmourprocedures.
  • Tooling & equipment:Set up andoperateassembly tooling, lifting equipment, fixtures, torque tools, and measurement equipment.
  • Safety:Followall Gilmour Spacesafetyand environmentalproceduresin order to carry out workssafely and minimising environmental impacts.
  • Engineering collaboration:Work closely with structural, manufacturing, systems, quality, propulsion, and test engineers to resolve integration issues.
  • Launch-site operations:Support final vehicle integration, payload mating, transport, pad integration, and launch-readiness activities where applicable.
  • Other duties as requested by Management.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Certificate III or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • 3 years Relevant hands-on mechanical assembly or structural integration experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical procedures.
  • Working understanding of tools, fasteners, torquing, measurement, and inspection.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • NV1 Security Clearance eligible
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or equivalent technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace, launch vehicles, defence, aviation, advanced manufacturing, or high-reliability engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical assembly and structural integration of complex hardware.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, P&ID, specifications, work instructions, and assembly procedures.
  • Experience using precision measurement and metrology equipment, including verniers, micrometers, height gauges, torque tools, and alignment equipment.
  • Competence in fastener installation, torquing, safety wiring, shimming, bonding, sealing, drilling, and mechanical fit-up.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot fit, alignment, dimensional, and interface issues.
  • Experience working with composite and metallic structures is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with configuration management, inspection records, non-conformance reporting, and quality systems.
  • Experience supporting integration, testing, commissioning, or launch-site operations is advantageous.
  • Strong focus on quality, safety, workmanship, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively from detailed procedures while also exercising sound technical judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, test, and operations teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where priorities can change rapidly
  • Working experience operating computing equipment.
