Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design and verify mechanical and structural systems for launch vehicles and satellites. You will use CAD/FEA tools to create efficient structures, own timelines, and develop comprehensive test plans from development through launch.

The role requires 3+ years in mechanical design and hands-on hardware experience, with NV1 clearance preferred and a collaborative, cross-team mindset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics or Structural Engineering.
  • 3+ years in mechanical, electromechanical or structural design and analysis.
  • 3+ years CAD design of parts and assemblies (SolidWorks preferred; Inventor, CATIA)
  • 2+ years with at least one commercial FEA or multiphysics package (ANSYS, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, etc.)
  • 2+ years hands-on hardware fabrication, assembly, integration or testing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and verify mechanical and structural systems for launch vehicle and satellite programs.
  • Use CAD/FEA tools to develop efficient structures and components.
  • Own product delivery timeline from conception to launch.
  • Develop test plans for parts through development, qualification and acceptance testing.
  • Review specifications and data to develop mechanical layouts.
  • Analyze data collected during testing to improve designs.
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers and managers across teams.
  • Assist with other duties as directed by Management.

  • Design and verify mechanical and structural systems to meet customer and Gilmour requirementsacross both Launch vehicle and satellite programs.

  • Utilize the full spectrum of the design, analysis, test, and manufacturing tools to create efficient structures and components.

  • Ownership of product delivery timeline through conception, design, assembly, and launch.

  • Develop test plans for parts through development, qualification, and acceptance testing.

  • Review specifications and other data to develop mechanical layouts.

  • Analyse and interpret data collected during testing.

  • Ability to problem solve and understand complex problems; incumbent must be able to resolve situations that demand solutions.

  • Other duties as requested by Management


Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor’sDegree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or Structural Engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience with mechanical, electromechanical, or structural design and analysis in a professional setting (excluding internships).

  • 3+ years’ experience with CAD designing parts and assemblies
    (Solid works preferred, Inventor, CATIA etc.), or

  • 2+ years’ experience with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package (ANSYS preferred or NASTRAN, ABAQUS, CFD codes, etc.)

  • 2+ years’ hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly,integrationand/or testing.

  • NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.


Desired Qualifications,Skillsand Experience:


  • 4+ years’ experience of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis

  • 4+ years of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, preferably as a lead

  • Ability to manage large assembly models and drawings

  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T

  • Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.

  • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers

  • Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together

  • Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication and documentation skills

  • Analytical/scientific programming experience (Python, Matlab, Excel, etc).

  • Teamwork, motivational and/or negotiating skill. Anticipates and responds to the needs of others.

  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage work demands and deliver outcomes.

  • Self-motivated, results oriented witha high levelof attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement, and environmental management.
