Job summary

Gilmour Space in Bowen, North Queensland, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Launch Operations) to design, analyse and deliver mechanical ground systems for our orbital launch site. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient launch preparations and operations.

You should have a mechanical, mechatronics or aerospace background with 6+ years in design/analysis, CAD, and FEA, plus hands-on fabrication or testing experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering.
• 6+ years of mechanical design and analysis experience.
• 6+ years CAD experience designing parts and assemblies.
• 3+ years with at least one commercial FEA/Multiphysics package.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyse, verify and document mechanical aspects of Launch Site GSE, including launch tower and test stands.
• Design mechanical ground support equipment to aid integration and testing of mechanical systems.
• Own end-to-end product delivery timelines from conception to qualification.
• Review specs and data and produce O&M documentation for new equipment.
• Create drawings, calculations, reports and project docs for GSE.
• Lead and support commissioning of mechanical systems with procedures and checklists.
• Faultfind and rectify Mechanical GSE issues.
• Support launch preparations and operations.
• Operate and maintain ground support equipment for Bowen Orbital Spaceport.

• Design, analyse, verify and document themechanicalaspectsofLaunch Site MechanicalGround System and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) including launch fluid tower, test standsandsupporting infrastructureusing CAD and FEA software.
• Design Mechanical ground support equipment to aid integration and testing of the Mechanical systems.
• Own end-to-end product delivery timelines through conception, design, assembly, and qualification.
• Review specifications and other data integral to mechanical packages and produce O&M documentation for new equipment.
• Create drawings, calculations, reports, and project documentation to support design, test, construction and commissioning of new and upgraded mechanical ground support equipment.
• Leadandsupport commissioning ofMechanical Systems by developing written procedures and checklists for performing test & commissioning operations asrequired.
• Faultfind and perform rectification of Mechanical GSE
• Support launch preparations and launch operations.
• Operate and maintain ground support structure equipment for the Bowen Orbital Spaceport.
• Other duties as requested by Management

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience with mechanical design and analysis in a professional setting (excluding internships).
• 6+ years of experience with CAD, designing parts and assemblies.
• 3+ years of experience with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package.
• 6+ years of hands‑on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly, integration and/or testing.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Chartered Engineer (CPEng) and/or RPEQ status or demonstrated progress toward professional registration.
• Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex aerospace or mechanical systems.
• Analytical/scientific programming experience (Python, Matlab, Excel, etc).
• Experience with multi-disciplinary systems.
• Experience with structural testing.
• Experience with Systems Engineering processes.
• Solid understanding and application of GD&T. Eligibility to obtain a NV1 Security Clearance.
• Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
• Self‑motivated with strong multi-tasking, organisational, communication and documentation skills.
• Proven Ability to prioritise and manage work demands and deliver outcomes
• Self‑motivated, results‑oriented with a high level of attention to detail
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement, and environmental management
