Job summary

Qantas Group in Mascot, Sydney, seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer within Airbus Technical Services to provide professional engineering guidance, manage fleet issue resolution, and mentor engineers across teams.

You will balance multiple deadlines with attention to detail while communicating effectively with suppliers, regulators, and internal stakeholders to maximise fleet reliability and operational value.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineering degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical.
• Over 10 years in commercial aircraft mechanical systems, preferably Airbus in an operator environment.
• Design signatory experience would be highly favourable.
• Understanding of initial airworthiness (EASA) and continuing airworthiness (CASA).
• Ability to translate complex technical information clearly and communicate with suppliers, manufacturers and internal stakeholders.
• Strong ownership, work ethic and drive to get the job done.
• Proven leadership and mentorship of engineers and technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Evaluating Instructions for Continuing Airworthiness and developing and authorising engineering instructions to address airworthiness and operational requirements.
• Evaluating and coordinating fleet airworthiness issues to ensure compliance with certification, airworthiness and regulatory requirements.
• Serving as a primary contact for mechanical engineering issues in the fleet portfolio and providing technical support to resolve maintenance and modification program issues.
• Providing leadership and mentorship to professional engineers and technical staff, fostering development of their technical skills and broader professional growth.
• Liaising with manufacturers, suppliers, regulators, and internal airline stakeholders to address fleet asset management issues.
• Analysing technical issues and preparing detailed technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and customers.
