Job summary

Airbus Australia Pacific is seeking a System Safety Engineer to act as a technical authority within the Aviation Product Safety team. You will evaluate safety risks, ensure airworthiness compliance, and support engineering programs across platforms in Australia.

You will lead safety assessments, coordinate with regulators, and drive a proactive safety culture, reporting to the Aviation Product Safety Team Lead and engaging across teams to deliver robust safety outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Avionics, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, or a compatible accredited discipline.
• Minimum 3 years professional experience as a practicing engineer in aviation.
• Technical and theoretical knowledge of system safety and its practical application.
• Understanding of maintenance and engineering cost drivers and how to ensure cost effectiveness.
• Ability to obtain Developer Engineering Authority within the MDO.
• Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations (e.g., DASR, CAANZ, CASA), standards, and internal best practices.
• Experience in system safety, preferably within the aerospace industry or on an Australian Defence Force (ADF) platform.
• Experience with project management and risk management frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Execute Aviation Product Safety processes and procedures, including formal safety reports to the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA), Continued Airworthiness Hazard Log maintenance, and updates to platform frameworks and work instructions.
• Perform Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA) and System Safety Assessments (SSA) for modifications to the Type Certification Basis, and provide ad-hoc safety or hazard analysis input to engineering designs.
• Conduct safety assessments supporting Engineering and CAM Services, develop Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) within delegated Engineering Authority, and support action strategies for major or minor Unsafe Occurrences.
• Maintain accurate data files, engineering records, and electronic databases while complying with Quality Management System (QMS) and Engineering Management System (EMS) processes.
• Lead the rapid development of Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) for initial occurrence reports within critical response windows to deliver actionable risk-mitigation data.
• Maintain and systematically update platform hazard logs to ensure transparent risk tracking and regulatory oversight.
• Chair, document, and direct the In-Service System Safety Working Group while representing Airbus in executive safety forums.
• and review comprehensive SRAs supporting key programs and contracts (including TLS and CEU).
• Conduct process reviews to maintain an audit-ready operational environment and manage prompt closure of quality audit findings.
• Ensure on-time execution of functional engineering safety milestones and complete required aviation safety training.

We are seeking a System Safety Engineer to act as a key technical authority and airworthiness champion within our Aviation Product Safety team. Reporting directly to the Aviation Product Safety Team Lead, this role is designed for a dedicated engineering professional who excels at evaluating safety risks, navigating regulatory frameworks, and driving a proactive safety culture across our aerospace platforms.

About the Role

As a member of the Airworthiness & Operations function's Aviation Product Safety team, you will provide System Safety program support within the Authority regulator environment to your appointed Business Line. Operating within an engineering team, you will support Continued and Continuing Airworthiness Management (including incident management) and deliver expertise to Programs to ensure full compliance with airworthiness regulations, standards, and OEM requirements within the scope of your delegated Engineering Authority.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
