Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering in a compatible accredited discipline.
• 5+ years as a practicing engineer in aviation or related field.
• Strong understanding of DASR, CAANZ, CASA regulations and internal best practices.
• Knowledge of system safety principles and airworthiness cost drivers.
• Ability to attain RPEQ or equivalent registration and higher engineering credentials.
• Ability to obtain DE1 level of Engineering Authority within the MDO and CVE level if required.

We are seeking a Senior Engineer System Safety to act as a key technical authority and airworthiness champion within our Aviation Product Safety team. Reporting directly to the Aviation Product Safety Team Lead, this role is designed for a dedicated engineering professional who excels at evaluating safety risks, navigating regulatory frameworks, and driving a proactive safety culture across our aerospace platforms.

About the role

As a key member of our Aviation Product Safety team within the Airworthiness & Operations function. In this role, you will be responsible for providing System Safety program support within the Authority regulator environment to your appointed Business Line.

You will work within an engineering team to support the provision of Continued and Continuing Airworthiness Management (including incident management) and deliver expertise to Programs to ensure full compliance with airworthiness regulations, standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards. All activities are performed in accordance with your delegated level and scope of Engineering Authority.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

• Execute Aviation Product Safety processes, procedures, and activities within the Product Safety Framework (e.g., formal safety reports to the Commonwealth of Australia, maintaining the Continued Airworthiness Hazard Log, and updating platform procedures/work instructions).
• Perform Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA) and System Safety Assessments (SSA) for modifications to the Type Certification Basis, and provide ad-hoc system safety/hazard analysis input to engineering designs.
• Provide System Safety expertise to internal and external stakeholders and conduct assessments supporting Engineering and CAM Services.
• Support action strategies requested by the Office of Airworthiness or in response to major/minor incidents resulting in Unsafe Occurrences.
• Develop engineering advice and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) within delegated Engineering Authority limits.
• Maintain accurate data files, engineering records, and electronic databases. Comply with all Quality Management System (QMS) and Engineering Management System (EMS) processes.

Key Deliverables (Outputs)

• Plan and execute targeted safety initiatives across Engineering and CAM Services to proactively mature the overall SMS.
• Deliver regulatory airworthiness oversight and lead specialised training programs to scale engineering capability.
• Rapidly develop Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) during occurrence reports within critical response windows to provide actionable risk-mitigation data.
• Systematically maintain and update platform hazard logs for transparent risk tracking.
• Chair, document, and direct the In-Service System Safety Working Group; represent Airbus in executive safety forums.
• Author and review comprehensive SRAs supporting key programs/contracts (including TLS and CEU).
• Conduct regular process reviews to streamline workflows and manage the prompt closure of major/minor quality audit findings.

The skills and experience best suited to this role are:

• Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Avionics, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, or a compatible accredited discipline.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a practicing engineer in a relevant field, preferably in aviation.
• Solid understanding of applicable legislation/regulations (e.g., DASR, CAANZ, CASA) and internal best practices.
• Solid understanding of theoretical engineering principles, system safety, and commercial/maintenance cost drivers.
• Ability to attain RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer Queensland) or equivalent state-based registration.
• Ability to obtain DE1 level of Engineering Authority within the MDO.
• Ability to attain Chartered credentials (CPEng) or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain CVE level of Engineering Authority within the MDO.
• Prior system safety experience on an Australian Defence Force (ADF) platform or within the aerospace industry.
• Experience with project management frameworks and risk management.
