Job summary

Orange Sky is seeking a strategic leader to backfill internal movements for 12-16 months. You will oversee Volunteer Support, Asset Support, and Volunteer Experience, shaping scalable operational systems and a volunteer-centric approach across Australia and Aotearoa.

Responsibilities

• Leading Operational Strategy: Translating organisational strategy into clear plans, deliverables, and measurable outcomes for Operations Support across Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
• Directing Volunteer & Fleet Operations: Providing strategic oversight of asset builds, fleet maintenance, incident management, and end to end volunteer attraction, engagement, and retention strategies.
• Uplifting Systems & MyOS: Driving continuous improvement and strategic enhancement of MyOS (our volunteer management platform) to support scalable ways of working.
• Empowering People & Culture: Coaching, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team of leaders, fostering accountability and alignment with Orange Sky values.
• Managing Resources & Risk: Owning annual budgets, resource allocation and operational risk management, while acting as an escalation point for complex or out of hours incidents.
• Collaborating Across Leadership: Partnering with broader operational streams and executive leadership to align shared priorities and embed a volunteer centric lens.

About Orange Sky

Orange Sky exists to support Australians who are facing challenges in their lives, including homelessness, financial hardship, limited access to laundry facilities or temporary displacement due to a natural disaster.We are committed to being there when it’s needed most, offering free laundry services, warm showers and friendly chats with our volunteers. The Role

This position is perfect for a strategic, systems-focused leader who excels at supporting high-performing teams and translating big-picture vision into seamless operational delivery. This 12-16 month fixed-term contract role backfilling exciting internal movements, reports to our Director, Marketing & Operations Support. Overseeing Volunteer Support, Asset Support, and Volunteer Experience, you will provide strategic direction for our volunteer program, fleet operations, and volunteer platform ensuring operational systems are scalable, efficient, and deeply grounded in the needs of our community and volunteers.

What you bring to the table

• The experience: Proven background in a senior leadership role within a fast paced environment (ideally in a similar organisation or industry), with a track record of leadership and managing large scale volunteer bases.
• Systems thinking & improvement: Demonstrated capability in identifying systemic issues, leveraging technology, and optimising operational processes to elevate user and volunteer experiences.
• Strategic & financial acumen: Strong analytical skills with experience managing budgets, analysing operational data, and allocating resources to achieve long-term goals.
• Stakeholder & people leadership: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence diverse teams, build cross departmental trust, and navigate complex, ambiguous situations.
• Risk & incident management: Sound judgement and proven problem solving abilities, capable of handling high stakes decisions with a focus on safety, quality, and service continuity.
• The mindset: A proactive, improvement minded, and flexible leader with a commitment to Orange Sky's values and the ability to travel when needed.
