Job summary

Mars Recruitment is assisting a large ASX-listed organisation in Sydney with a 12-month fixed-term contract within Group Financial Reporting. You will own complex consolidation and technical accounting work, lead a small team, and build strong relationships with senior finance stakeholders.

The role focuses on US GAAP and IFRS reporting, with opportunities to shape the financial story, mentor a Senior Accountant, and drive improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant from a Big 4 or Mid-Tier audit firm.
• 5+ years' post-qualified experience in financial reporting or technical accounting.
• Strong IFRS knowledge; US GAAP advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage quarterly and year-end US GAAP reporting, owning end-to-end consolidation across the group's businesses and investments.
• Lead annual reporting and local financial statement preparation under IFRS, shaping the financial narrative.
• Provide expert accounting guidance on complex transactions to keep the business ahead of the curve.
• Champion a best-practice control environment, partnering with external auditors and driving remediation where needed.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to elevate the finance function.
• Mentor and develop a Senior Accountant to grow technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage quarterly and year-end US GAAP reporting, owning the end-to-end consolidation process across the group's businesses and investments.
• Lead annual reporting and local financial statement preparation under IFRS, shaping how the business tells its financial story.
• Act as the technical go-to, providing expert accounting guidance on unique and complex transactions that keep the business ahead of the curve.
• Champion a best-practice control environment, working closely with external auditors and driving smart remediation where needed.
• Simplify and continuously improvement initiatives that genuinely elevate the finance function.
• Mentor and grow a Senior Accountant, helping them build their own technical expertise.

About You

• Qualified Accountant from a Big 4 or Mid-Tier audit firm, with 5+ years' post-qualified experience.
• Previous financial reporting or technical accounting experience involving consolidation of large, complex groups.
• Strong technical experience in IFRS, with US GAAP advantageous.
• Exposure to revenue recognition, impairments and consolidations is highly advantageous.
• Proven experience managing and developing a team is beneficial.
• Collaborative, confident, and capable of influencing senior stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

To Note

• They are only considering audit trained candidates from a Big 4/Mid-Tier chartered firm.
• This is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract.
• Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or long-term visa holder/able to work for the duration of 12 months.
• They operate a flexible WFH model of 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
• Shorter notice periods are highly preferred.
