Job summary

Teachers Mutual Bank Limited is seeking a Senior Manager- Controls Assurance to lead and evolve the controls assurance function across the bank. You will provide independent oversight of control effectiveness across material risk categories and work with Executive and Board to shape risk insights and assurance practices.

This high-visibility role drives the annual assurance program, challenges outcomes, and supports informed decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Accounting or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in assurance, controls assurance, monitoring or audit roles in financial services.
  • Experience leading controls assurance, control testing or monitoring programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian financial services regulatory frameworks.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise risk management, governance and controls assurance.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including coaching and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, including presentations to Exec/Board audiences.

  • Lead a team, developing TMBL's Controls Assurance function and capability.
  • Own and deliver the Annual Controls Assurance Plan using a risk-based approach.
  • Oversee assurance reviews, monitoring activities, thematic reviews and control testing programs.
  • Provide independent insights into control effectiveness, emerging risks and key risk themes.
  • Deliver high-quality reporting and recommendations to Executive, Board Committees and governance forums.
  • Build trusted relationships across the business while providing constructive challenge and guidance on risk and control matters.

As Senior Manager- Controls Assurance, you'll lead and evolve TMBL's Controls Assurance function, providing independent oversight of control effectiveness across the Bank's material risk categories. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business, you'll help shape risk insights, enhance assurance practices and support informed decision-making at Executive and Board level.

This is a highly visible leadership role where your expertise will contribute directly to a stronger control environment, better risk outcomes and the continued success of a values‑led organisation.

Essential
  • Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in assurance, controls assurance, monitoring or audit roles within financial services
  • Demonstrated experience leading controls assurance, control testing or monitoring programs
  • Strong knowledge of Australian financial services regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Deep expertise in enterprise risk management, governance and controls assurance
  • Proven people leadership experience, including coaching and developing high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience presenting to Executive and Board audiences
Nice to have
  • Experience engaging with regulators, external auditors or other assurance providers
  • Experience supporting remediation programs and enterprise risk transformation initiatives
  • Exposure to complex banking or highly regulated environments
