Job summary

CommBank is seeking a Mainframe Systems Engineer to modernise and harden the delivery of critical mainframe applications. You will own and improve the platforms that manage source code, builds and deployment across enterprise mainframe environments, ensuring controlled, repeatable, traceable and increasingly automated software delivery with strong production safeguards.

You will combine established mainframe practices with modern software engineering, integrating technologies such as Endeavor

Qualifications

• Strong mainframe foundations (IBM z/OS, JCL, TSO/E, ISPF, JES2/SDSF)
• Experience with Broadcom Endeavor or comparable mainframe SCM
• Understanding of build and release processes, compilers and packaging
• Exposure to Db2, CICS, IMS, MQ or RACF
• Automation experience using Python, shell scripting, APIs or CLI tools
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices

Responsibilities

• Engineer, administer and enhance mainframe deployment platforms and Endeavor-based workflows
• Design and maintain source, build, promotion and deployment pathways with environments and approvals
• Engineer automated build, packaging and deployment across COBOL, PL/I, Assembler and JCL
• Improve Endeavor processors, exits and integrations with enterprise tooling
• Diagnose complex build/promotion/deployment issues across environments
• Strengthen release integrity with versioning, traceability and rollback capabilities
• Reduce manual activity via APIs, scripting and automation; ensure Git/CI/CD controls
• Identify opportunities to modernise legacy delivery without compromising production control
