Job summary

CommBank is seeking an experienced Mainframe Platform Engineer to evolve IBM Z, z/OS and storage infrastructure for Australia’s largest bank. You’ll work across hardware, storage, systems engineering, resilience, automation and emerging AI-assisted engineering.

You’ll join a team that focuses on deep expertise across the IBM Z landscape while expanding capability across adjacent mainframe technologies, with a strong emphasis on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

Solid experience in mainframe infrastructure engineering and systems programming.
Knowledge across IBM Z, z/OS and storage technologies.
Ability to learn quickly across hardware, operating systems and automation.

Responsibilities

Engineer and enhance enterprise IBM Z, z/OS and mainframe storage infrastructure with focus on availability, resilience, security and performance.
Support hardware installations, upgrades, capacity changes, storage migrations and technology refreshes.
Engineer storage infrastructure including DASD, storage subsystems, logical volumes, FICON and SAN connectivity.
Analyse storage utilisation, I/O performance, channel activity and system capacity to identify constraints.
Diagnose complex hardware, storage, operating system and performance issues and drive root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.
Support storage replication, disaster recovery and resilience capabilities and participate in recovery testing.
Develop automation and tooling that improves provisioning, monitoring, maintenance and operational processes.
Explore responsible uses of AI-assisted engineering for troubleshooting, automation, documentation, knowledge discovery and analysis.
