Job summary

Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Sydney is seeking a seasoned Mainframe Platform Engineer to help engineer, maintain and improve IBM Z infrastructure, z/OS systems and storage platforms that underpin critical banking services.

You will work across the mainframe technology landscape, building capability across hardware, storage, operating systems, connectivity, performance, resilience and automation, while focusing on availability and security.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in mainframe infrastructure engineering, systems programming or storage engineering.
• Ability to learn across the IBM Z ecosystem and work across multiple areas.
• Knowledge of IBM Z/infrastructure technologies (z/OS, JES2, TSO/E, ISPF, JCL) is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting, risk assessment and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and enhance enterprise IBM Z, z/OS and mainframe storage infrastructure with a focus on availability, resilience, security and performance.
• Support hardware installations, upgrades, capacity changes, storage migrations and technology refreshes.
• Engineer storage infrastructure including DASD, storage subsystems, logical volumes, FICON and SAN connectivity.
• Analyse storage utilisation, I/O performance, channel activity and system capacity to identify and address performance constraints.
• Diagnose complex hardware, storage, operating system and performance issues and drive root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.
• Support storage replication, disaster recovery and infrastructure resilience capabilities and participate in recovery testing.
• Develop automation and tooling that improves provisioning, monitoring, maintenance and operational processes.
• Explore responsible uses of AI-assisted engineering for troubleshooting, automation, documentation, knowledge discovery and analysis.
