Job summary

SRA Information Technology in Canberra is seeking an experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to drive AI/ML initiatives across the full lifecycle, from experimentation to production deployment and optimisation.

You will collaborate with software engineers, ML specialists and business stakeholders to design, build and operationalise scalable AI capabilities that deliver real-world outcomes in a hybrid, multi-location environment.

Locations: ACT, NSW, VIC or QLD | Hybrid Working | 12-Month Contract + Extensions

We're seeking an experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help deliver innovative AI and machine learning solutions within a high-performing technology environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the full AI delivery lifecycle, from experimentation and proof of concept through to production deployment and ongoing optimisation. You'll collaborate with software engineers, machine learning specialists and business stakeholders to design, build and operationalise scalable AI capabilities that deliver real-world outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design, develop and deploy machine learning and AI solutions.
• Build and maintain production-grade ML capabilities.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience delivering production AI and machine learning solutions.
• Strong Python development experience.
• Expertise with PyTorch and transformer-based models.
• Experience with NLP technologies, including modern LLM solutions.
• Experience with computer vision and classical machine learning techniques.
• Strong understanding of data preparation, SQL, Pandas and scikit-learn.
• Experience with MLOps tools such as MLflow.
• Experience delivering solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure and/or GCP).
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Highly Regarded

• Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly AWS CDK.
• AWS serverless application delivery.
• Experience explaining technical concepts and AI outcomes to non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Relevant ICT qualifications and/or industry certifications.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
• Ability to travel periodically for onboarding and team collaboration activities.
