Job summary

Daifuku Oceania Limited in Perth is seeking an experienced Senior Low Level Controls Engineer to lead design, implementation and commissioning of control systems for conveyor and material handling projects. The role is based in Perth and requires ownership across scope, budget, schedule and quality.

You will design control architectures, develop electrical layouts and fieldbus solutions, program PLC systems, and validate documentation.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, mechatronics or controls engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven track record delivering automation control systems from design to commissioning.
• Hands-on PLC programming and fault finding across Siemens S7/TIA, Rockwell or Omron.
• Electrical and control system design, cost estimation and project delivery experience.
• Knowledge of PROFINET and AS-i networks.
• Willingness to travel as project requirements arise.
• Baggage handling, EPLAN, SCADA or electrical contractor licence are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead controls engineering projects from concept through factory and site acceptance tests.
• Develop control system architecture and fieldbus solutions for conveyor systems.
• Program, test and fault-find PLC systems across multiple platforms.
• Prepare specifications, calculations, BOMs and technical docs.
• Produce and validate electrical layouts with EPLAN.
• Oversee commissioning and safety reviews; mentor juniors.

About the opportunity

Daifuku Oceania is seeking an experienced Senior Low Level Controls Engineer to lead the design, implementation and commissioning of control systems for sophisticated conveyor and automated material handling projects. Based in Perth, you will take ownership of engineering outcomes across scope, budget, schedule and quality while collaborating with project teams, customers, suppliers and technical specialists.

What you’ll do

• Lead controls engineering projects from concept through factory and site acceptance testing.
• Develop control system architecture, electrical designs and fieldbus solutions for conveyor-based systems.
• Program, test and fault‑find PLC systems using Siemens S7/TIA, Rockwell or Omron platforms.
• Prepare functional specifications, design calculations, bills of materials and technical documentation.
• Use EPLAN to produce and validate electrical device layouts and drawings.
• Lead factory acceptance testing, on-site commissioning and site acceptance testing.
• Support safety‑in‑design reviews and supervise subcontractor quality during commissioning.
• Mentor engineering colleagues and contribute to design standards and continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring

• A degree or recognised qualification in electrical, mechatronics or controls engineering, or extensive relevant industry experience.
• A strong record delivering automation control systems from design through to commissioning.
• Hands‑on PLC programming and fault‑finding capability.
• Experience in electrical and control system design, cost estimation and project delivery.
• Knowledge of industrial control networks such as PROFINET and AS-i.
• Clear communication, sound judgement and a logical, customer‑focused approach to problem‑solving.
• The flexibility to travel as project requirements arise.
• Experience in baggage handling, EPLAN, SCADA, remote incident support or an electrical contractor licence will be highly regarded.
