Job summary

Aerometrex in Adelaide is seeking an experienced LiDAR senior technical lead to guide pre- and post-processing across the full LiDAR production workflow. You will set technical direction, mentor the team and ensure outputs meet Australian standards for accuracy and quality.

Lead the Data Engineering collaboration, advise on capability and timelines, and contribute to proposals while collaborating with project management and clients.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on LiDAR production experience including GNSS/IMU processing, strip alignment, point cloud classification, and DEM/DSM generation.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring production staff.
• Experience managing QA/QC processes including accuracy validation and reporting.
• Understanding of aerial surveying operations and data capture (fixed-wing/rotary).
• Working knowledge of ICSM Guidelines and ASPRS accuracy standards.
• Proficiency with TerraSolid/TerraScan, LAStools and POSPac.
• Strong understanding of Australian datums and coordinates (GDA2020, AHD).
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills for clients and teams.
• Growth mindset and can-do attitude.
• Experience in large-scale production environments and workflow automation using Python.
• Knowledge of Python spatial libraries (GDAL, PDAL) and AWS.
• Experience applying geospatial AI/ML tools to production workflows.
• Understanding of the Australian aerial survey and EO industry (CASA context).

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership of LiDAR production and mentor Adelaide team members.
• Oversee LiDAR pre-processing: GNSS/positional accuracy, validation, strip alignment and tiling.
• Oversee LiDAR post-processing: classification, QA/QA, DEM/DSM generation and reporting.
• Review QA/QC results and provide corrective guidance to meet specifications.
• Ensure outputs meet national LiDAR specs before delivery and escalate non-conformances.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for pre- and post-processing workflows.
• Drive continuous improvement of production workflows, tools and methodologies.
• Act as LiDAR technical lead for Data Engineering on software projects.
• Advise sales, operations and PM on capability, capacity and timelines.
• Provide technical input to proposals and tenders to support pricing.
