Job summary

Talent seeks an experienced M365 Lead Engineer to drive architecture, design and delivery of a secure enterprise Microsoft 365 environment. The role is a senior technical leadership position with onsite requirements in Canberra, Australia, on a contract until 30 June 2027 with possible extensions.

The successful candidate will own M365 tenant architecture, landing zones and governance, providing technical leadership across delivery teams, Cyber/GRC and stakeholders while ensuring secure identity

We are seeking an experienced M365 Lead Engineer to lead the architecture, design and technical delivery of a secure enterprise Microsoft 365 collaboration environment.

This is a senior technical leadership position suited to an experienced M365 Architect, Modern Workplace Architect or Lead M365 Engineer who has designed complex Microsoft 365 environments and can provide technical governance across delivery, security and stakeholder groups.

The Role

You will take ownership of the overall architecture and technical direction of the M365 platform, ensuring the environment is secure, scalable and aligned with organisational security and governance requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Lead the architecture and design of a secure Microsoft 365 environment.
• Own M365 tenant architecture and landing zone design.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight throughout delivery.
• Make and approve key technical decisions and manage technical risks.
• Work closely with project managers, business stakeholders and Cyber/GRC teams.
• Establish technical governance and documentation standards.
• Support secure identity, access and collaboration requirements.
• Coordinate technical activities across multiple engineering and delivery teams.
• Oversee change, release and platform lifecycle management.
• Support resilience, backup and data lifecycle requirements.
• Contribute to licensing strategy and cost optimisation.
• Resolve escalated technical issues and design challenges.
• Represent the engineering function in senior stakeholder and technical forums.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a senior Microsoft 365 specialist with demonstrated experience in:

• M365 architecture and complex enterprise environment design.
• M365 tenant design and platform architecture.
• Leading technical delivery across Microsoft 365 environments.
• Technical governance, architecture decisions and risk management.
• Identity and access management within secure enterprise environments.
• Working with Cyber Security and GRC stakeholders.
• M365 governance, lifecycle, change and release management.
• Communicating complex technical decisions to senior stakeholders.
• Providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.

Experience delivering Microsoft 365 solutions within Australian Government, Defence or similarly security-conscious environments will be highly regarded.
