Job summary

Westpac Group in Sydney is seeking a Lawyer/Senior Lawyer to join the Commercial Banking & Transactional Support Legal team on a 12-month parental leave contract. The role delivers practical, commercially focused legal advice to Distribution and Frontline teams across Australia.

You will be a versatile banking lawyer who acts as a generalist, handling a wide range of issues beyond large banking transactions, including regulatory obligations and lending documentation.

Qualifications

8+ years PQE with unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
Strong experience in commercial banking and business lending.
Experience reviewing lending and security documents; regulatory knowledge.

Responsibilities

Provide practical legal advice across commercial banking matters.
Independently review transactions and lending documentation.
Support regulatory compliance guidance (ASIC, Corporations Act, PPSA).
Build relationships with bankers, product teams and external counsel.
Advise on deal structuring and security documents.
