Job summary

Limber is seeking a qualified lawyer for a secondment with a Commonwealth Agency based in Canberra. The role focuses on administrative law and statutory interpretation, embedding you in the in-house legal team to advise across client areas.

You will engage with senior stakeholders, apply admin law principles to decisions, and advise on social security, health and family assistance legislation, including automated decision making and legislative reform.

Qualifications

• A current practising certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a current Baseline security clearance experience is essential.
• Previous experience advising on Commonwealth administrative law including on automated decision making, legislative reform (including Social Security Law) would be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Secondee within the Commonwealth client’s in-house legal team with high-level stakeholder engagement.
• Provide advice on statutory interpretation of legislation and subordinate instruments.
• Apply administrative law principles to business decisions and advise on process issues.
• Advise on program legislation.
• Respond to legal advice requests related to automated decision making and legislative reform.

The Role

We currently have a secondment opportunity within a Commonwealth Agency that is seeking a lawyer with administrative law and statutory interpretation experience to work on a variety of legal projects.

The Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work as a secondee within the Commonwealth clients’ in-house legal team. High level stakeholder engagement skills are required as the successful candidate will be required to provide advice and assistance to a wide range of client areas.

The successful candidate will provide a variety of legal advice on subjects including:

• statutory interpretation of legislation and sub-ordinate instruments;
• applying administrative law principles to business decisions and advising on process issues;
• providing advice on program legislation;
• responding to legal advice requests related to automated decision making and legislative reform; and
• providing advice related to Social Security Law, Family Assistance Law and Health Legislation.

The Requirements
