Job summary

itD is seeking a Compliance Specialist V to support Global EHS programs, ensuring laser, optical, and radiation safety across research labs and development environments. The ideal candidate has 5+ years as an LSO, deep laser safety knowledge, and hands-on experience with hazard assessments, exposure calculations, safety inspections, and radiation testing.

Location is onsite in Redmond, WA with a 5-month duration and pay rate of $40–$46 per hour.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or equivalent.
• Proficient in ANSI Z136.1 and laser safety standards.
• Experience conducting safety inspections and hazard assessments.
• Familiarity with lasers, LEDs, and X-ray generating equipment.
• Engineering/technical role with field testing or failure analysis.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
• BS in Physics/Optical Sciences/Engineering or related field; LSO/RSO may substitute.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory inspections and audits for laser and radiation safety compliance.
• Evaluate hazards and help specify hardware for laser-containing equipment.
• Perform laser exposure calculations (MPE, NOHD, NHZ) and laser/LED measurements.
• Review and approve laser/optical safety SOPs and supervise external technicians.
• Investigate safety incidents and validate equipment safety designs.
• Implement radiation safety protocols and conduct X-ray leakage surveys.
• Collaborate with researchers, product, engineering, and EHS teams on safety controls.
