Job summary

EOS Space Systems Pty Ltd is a laser and electro-optics technology developer and systems integration company focused on space domain awareness systems and observatories, with activities in Australia and overseas. The Senior Laser Scientist or Engineer will perform laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance, and prepare technical documentation.

The role sits within the R&D team, collaborating with multi-disciplinary groups to advance EOS IP and cutting-edge laser technologies,

Qualifications

• Experience with laser subsystems, high energy lasers or similar photonics platforms.
• Ability to design and specify laser components and subsystems.
• Strong documentation and reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development of new laser subsystems for ground-to-space applications.
• Handle laser design, component specification, assembly, alignment and optimisation.
• Collaborate with electronics, software and mechanical teams to define system requirements.
• Contribute to instrumentation of opto-electronic subsystems and EOS IP.
• Document investigative experiments and communicate progress to discipline managers.

EOS Space Systems is a laser and electro-optics technology developer and systems integration company, dealing primarily with leading edge space domain awareness systems and custom observatories in Australia and overseas. EOS Space Systems is also involved in supporting EOS’ Directed Energy Weapon system activities in Australia. EOS Space Systems develops a wide range of High Energy Laser (HEL) systems and High Power Laser (HPL) with advanced electronic control and instrumentation sub-systems.

The position is for a Senior Laser Scientist or Engineer within the EOS Space Systems Research & Development (R&D) team. A successful candidate is expected to undertake laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is also part of the routine.

Primary Duties

• Assist with the development of new laser subsystems, primarily high energy lasers for ground-to-space applications.
• Includes laser design, component specification, assembly, optical alignment, and optimisation.
• Work alongside other engineering disciplines (electronics, software, mechanical) and communicate system requirements.
• Contribute to the Instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
• Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP.
• Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
• Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company’s research activities.
• Actively teach other staff skills and concepts in areas of proficiency to assist the general improvement of knowledge and capability within the group.
