Job summary

IA, proudly Australian-owned, seeks a Senior Interior Designer to lead the development and delivery of high-quality design projects with a distinctive approach. You will oversee predesign, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and compliant outcomes.

You will mentor Interior Designers and Graduates while supporting various project phases across national studios and engaging clients throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of proven experience in commercial design.
• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or an accepted alternative qualification.
• Experience leading projects and mentoring teams.

About the Senior Interior Designer role

We are looking for someone who can lead the development and delivery of high-quality design projects with their own unique design approach, with a track record of delivering successful and profitable projects. The Senior Interior Designer role will be responsible for the facilitation of all project deliverables; on time, to budget, and compliant with company and industry requirements. You will lead the coordinated and quality delivery of predesign, schematic design, design development, construction documentation and administration of project requirements. The Senior Interior Designer will also have the opportunity to shape, guide and mentor the Interior Designers and Graduates as they support various project phases.

Does this sound like you?

• 10+ years of proven experience in commercial design
• A bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or an accepted alternative qualification
• Experience working for either client side or contractor side in similar roles
• High level of technical skillsets to develop (and mentor) project documentation drawings from concept stage through to detail documentation and construction documentation within Revit
• Proficient use of Adobe Create Suite, specifically Indesign and Photoshop
• Proficient use of SketchUp and other rendering programmes will be an advantage
• An expert knowledge of the requirements of BCA/NCC, Australian Standards and Local Government/Certification bodies
• Confidently understand the project management process, with the ability to lead projects as a Project Leader and coordinate and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team both internally and externally
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and timeframes with a quality output
• Can create unique concepts that push the boundaries of design
• Demonstrates a high level of professional integrity by taking pride, ownership and responsibility for own work as well as team member’s work
• Regularly shows the ability to seek out and find alternative solutions to problems
• Enjoys training and mentoring teams through new challenges and opportunities, continually raising the bar to a higher level of performance
• Projects self-confidence to others and is comfortable speaking and presenting in a group setting in a convincing, articulate and polished manner that reflects expertise and industry knowledge
• Enjoys building strong working relationships with clients and supporting them through the full project life-cycle

Key Responsibilities

• Undertaking complete project briefing with the client/representatives and lead the return brief development.
• Take a lead role on all assigned projects (capable of all sizes while running them concurrently)
• Lead development of visual presentation material
• Deliver documentation packages to a standard that mitigates construction variation risks
• Manage contract/subcontractor tender pricing processes
• Manage and coordinate sub consultants and their deliverables
• Lead and manage design and project PCG meetings, providing client updates as necessary
• Manage the internal design teams, mitigating design risk and errors, monitoring deliverables and undertaking preliminary QA reviews.
• Take a lead role in managing the coordination and development of project deliverables, their resourcing and time management
• Assist with the development of tender/proposal responses, submissions, and creation of their content
• Take a lead role in project pitches / presentations, responsible for the articulation of design capability and deliverables.
