This role blends technical inspection expertise, leadership of a regional inspector team and a strong focus on safety, accuracy and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Planning Manager, you will manage seven Inspectors across the VRMC Hume network, ensuring inspections are completed to standard, data is captured correctly and information is used to improve maintenance prioritisation and decision making. You'll be pivotal to driving consistency through training, updating work instructions and providing evidence‑based guidance that supports both planning and delivery teams.

  • Conduct assurance inspections to validate quality, consistency and compliance across all inspectors and hazard inspection crews.
  • Maintain and update Inspection Guides, Work Instructions and methodologies to reflect the latest standards and interpretations.
  • Provide clear feedback to crews and planning teams on asset condition changes, emerging risks and defect trends.
  • Drive improvement opportunities across inspection processes, data quality and maintenance prioritisation.
  • Support the rollout of inspection‑related improvement initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders & external stakeholders.
  • Lead by example on Zero Harm, safety observations, incident reporting and positive safety engagement.
What You'll Bring
  • Experience in road maintenance, inspections or asset condition assessment (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of asset/works management systems such as Asset Vision.
  • Ability to identify defects, understand treatment selection and interpret pavement maintenance standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence, train and guide inspectors.
  • Competence in evidence‑based decision making and quality assurance.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to work across multiple priorities.
  • An inquisitive, self‑motivated approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Certificate II/III in civil construction or maintenance advantageous (not essential).

  • Supportive leadership and a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Development pathways including programs like Thrive and Own Career.
