Job summary

Talenza is seeking a Senior Infrastructure & Operations Engineer on a 4-week contract based in Sydney, with hybrid work options. The role focuses on hands-on improvement of reliability, monitoring and observability across on‑premises and Azure environments.

Ideal candidates will audit, uplift monitoring, implement practical fixes, and work with stakeholders to ensure critical systems are well supported. Strong RCA and independent delivery are required.

Qualifications

4-Week Initial Engagement | Potential Extension | Sydney / Hybrid

We're partnering with a well-established technology business looking for a hands-on Senior Infrastructure & Operations Engineer to help improve the reliability, monitoring and operational visibility of a complex environment spanning on-premises infrastructure and Azure.

This is not an architecture or strategy role. We're looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, identifying operational gaps and implementing practical solutions that make a real difference.

You'll work closely with senior technical stakeholders to audit existing services, uplift monitoring and alerting, and improve confidence that critical infrastructure and applications are properly supported.

• Review and audit existing infrastructure, monitoring and alerting coverage.
• Improve operational visibility across Windows, VMware, network and Azure environments.
• Configure and tune monitoring, alerting and health checks for critical services.
• Validate monitoring coverage for public-facing and internal systems.
• Assist with logging, alerting and observability improvements across existing platforms.
• Work with internal teams to identify business-critical applications and infrastructure dependencies.
• Document findings, recommendations and implemented improvements.
• Support operational readiness and incident management processes.
• Strong Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Administrator, DevOps or SRE background.
• Experience supporting complex production environments.
• VMware administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability.
• Ability to work independently and deliver against a defined backlog of work.
• Hands-on approach with a focus on outcomes and operational improvement.

Nice to Have

• Experience with monitoring or observability tools such as:
  • PRTG
  • Grafana
  • ELK Stack
  • Datadog
  • Zabbix
• Experience with alerting platforms such as PagerDuty.
• SNMP monitoring experience.
• Exposure to application logging, metrics and tracing.
• Experience supporting .NET or C++ applications.
