Job description

Our Federal Government client is seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Automation Specialist) to support the delivery of enterprise-scale container platform and cloud automation solutions. This role will focus on designing, deploying and supporting modern infrastructure platforms, with a strong emphasis on automation, observability, container orchestration and private cloud technologies. The successful candidate will play a key role in enabling reliable, scalable and secure digital services through the implementation of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD practices and cloud technologies.

Role Title: Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Start Date: January 2027

Contract Role Till: 12 Month Initial Contract, with further extension options available.

Pay Rate: Market Rates

Location: Canberra (2617), Melbourne CBD or Brisbane CBD. Hybrid working arrangements available on consideration, with candidates required to reside within reasonable travel distance of their nominated office location.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Security Clearance: Current NV1 Security Clearance required.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy and automate enterprise-scale container and private cloud infrastructure platforms.
• Manage and enhance Red Hat OpenShift and OpenStack environments across complex enterprise ecosystems.
• Implement and maintain infrastructure automation solutions using Infrastructure as Code principles.
• Develop and maintain automation playbooks, deployment pipelines and operational tooling.
• Configure, integrate and maintain observability and monitoring solutions across infrastructure and application environments.
• Implement telemetry pipelines, instrumentation and monitoring capabilities to improve platform visibility and performance.
• Support platform scalability, resilience, security and operational efficiency through modern engineering practices.
• Collaborate with development, architecture and operations teams to streamline delivery and deployment processes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across infrastructure management, automation and cloud operations.

Experience & Skills Required:

• Proven experience designing, deploying and managing complex enterprise-scale infrastructure environments.
• Strong hands‑on experience with container orchestration platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes.
• Experience working with enterprise private cloud and virtualisation platforms, including OpenStack.
• Demonstrated expertise implementing enterprise telemetry, observability and monitoring solutions.
• Strong experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code, automation scripts and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with automation technologies including Ansible, GitOps, ArgoCD and related tooling.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and implement scalable technical solutions.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary technical teams.

Candidates must possess existing Australian working rights (Citizens and be in possession of an existing NV1 Clearance, active or inactive) and live in the Greater Canberra, Melbourne or Brisbane Area.
