Job summary

Peoplebank is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to support critical infrastructure for a Federal Government client on a 12-month contract with potential extension. You will lead design, deployment, and support of cloud and data infrastructure across AWS and/or Azure, using Terraform IaC and modern CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities include prioritising work queues, collaborating with stakeholders, driving Agile practices, and ensuring scalable, well-documented solutions with Docker and Kubernetes

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud infrastructure and services.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tools and agile development practices.
• Strong IaC experience using Terraform and modern Git-based pipelines.

Our Federal Government client is currently seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support critical infrastructure and project initiatives on a 12-month contract, with the possibility of a 12-month extension.

As the selected candidates, you will:

• Lead the design, development, deployment, and support of the Agency’s Cloud & Data Infrastructure.
• Prioritise and manage work queues to ensure efficient delivery of key initiatives.
• Ensure solutions adhere to best practices for integration and are well documented.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective outcomes.
• Play a leadership role within project teams using an agile development framework.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to define project requirements and negotiate solutions.
• Support and maintain automation pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform.
• Develop and maintain solutions across cloud environments, leveraging AWS and/or Azure.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of DevOps practices and tools.
• Support containerisation, including Docker and Kubernetes, for scalable application delivery.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud infrastructure and services.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and manage scalable cloud solutions.
• Strong expertise in DevOps tools and practices, including continuous delivery pipelines with GitLab, Artifactory, and Jira.
• Deep understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies, particularly with Terraform.
• Proficiency with version control systems such as Git, combined with agile development practices.
• Capability to write, maintain, and troubleshoot code in Python, JavaScript, and Golang.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to work independently with high autonomy and deliver strategic solutions.

It is desirable if you have:

• Proficiency in managing multi-cloud capabilities across AWS and Azure.
• Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault for securing sensitive data and secrets.
• Experience with designing and implementing automation solutions incorporating AI agents for tasks such as auto-remediation, documentation, or testing.

Successful candidates will need to be Australian citizens and be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
