Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Principal / Lead Substation Engineer to join our Energy & Power team in Perth. Lead high‑voltage substation projects up to 500 kV, shaping the capability and mentoring the Perth team within the APAC network.

You will collaborate across disciplines, engage with clients, contribute to proposals and deliver high‑quality design and engineering work while supporting business growth and regional capability development.

Qualifications

• Substantial HV substation experience in consulting, utility, contractor or owner’s engineer contexts.
• Recognised technical specialization in primary or secondary/protection systems.
• Understanding of transmission and distribution project delivery and design assurance requirements.
• Clear communication, commercial awareness and ability to build client relationships.
• Collaborative leadership style with passion for developing people and building a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across HV substations and multidisciplinary teams.
• Deliver or oversee owner’s engineer services and provide construction support where needed.
• Review technical deliverables and maintain high standards of safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Engage with clients, contribute to proposals and scope development, and support business development.
• Mentor engineers and help grow the Perth substation team.
• Collaborate with local and remote delivery teams and project stakeholders across Australia.
