Some of the things you'll be involved in include:

  • Deliver primary engineering and design across HV and EHV substation projects.
  • Develop primary plant layouts and specify HV and MV plant and equipment.
  • Develop and review electrical Single Line Diagrams across HV, MV and LV systems.
  • Work across AIS, GIS and hybrid substation solutions and HV/MV switchgear.
  • Undertake or contribute to electrical studies including earthing, short circuit and insulation coordination.
  • Work across interfaces with secondary, protection, civil and structural disciplines.
  • Work directly with clients and project teams to develop practical engineering solutions.

Here’s what you’ll need

We're interested in Primary Engineers who have developed their experience within autility or engineering consultancy and enjoy hands-on engineering and working with clients and project teams.

You’ll bring:

  • Hands-on primary substation design experience across HV transmission and/or distribution projects.
  • Experience with primary plant, HV/MV switchgear, substation layouts and SLDs.
  • Experience with AIS, GIS and/or hybrid substation solutions.
  • Understanding of the interfaces between primary, secondary, protection, civil, structural and SCADA engineering.
  • Experience engaging directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian electricity industry standards.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.

Why Jacobs and why this role

  • A genuine growth opportunity to support building Jacobs’ Perth substation capability and help define its future direction.
  • The opportunity to make an early, visible impact rather than inherit a fixed team structure.
  • A broad project mix spanning renewables, grid connections, owner’s engineer and detailed design work.
  • The backing of established Perth teams, plus the depth of a broader APAC Energy and Power group.
  • The chance to influence hiring, technical standards, client relationships and the way the team grows.
  • A senior technical position where your work will contribute directly to Australia’s renewable energy transition.
