Job description

Advancing careers. Advancing everyday life.

Glencore is committed to providing an environment that adheres to the Respect at Work Legislation.

Apply your health and rehabilitation expertise in a role where you can influence the wellbeing of an entire workforce.

Oaky Creek Coal, a Glencore managed operation producing high-quality export coking coal, is seeking an experienced health professional to join our team as Senior Health and Hygiene Coordinator. Working closely with leaders and employees, you will help deliver safe, practical workplace health outcomes across the operation.

This opportunity may suit someone with a background in occupational health, occupational rehabilitation, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or nursing who has strong workplace injury management experience and is ready to take on broader responsibility within mining.

About the role

Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, you will coordinate workplace health programs, manage injury and rehabilitation matters, and support the operation's occupational health and hygiene programs.

Working closely with employees, leaders, medical practitioners and external providers, you will combine individual case management with initiatives that help prevent injury, support recovery and manage workplace health risks.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead injury management, return-to-work and workers' compensation processes, ensuring clear plans, regular follow-up and sustainable outcomes.
  • Work with employees, leaders and treating practitioners to understand job demands, clarify restrictions and identify suitable rehabilitation options.
  • Develop and coordinate initiatives that support injury prevention, fitness for work and employee wellbeing.
  • Coordinate the occupational hygiene program with specialist providers, including monitoring schedules, exposure assessments and follow-up actions.
  • Manage site requirements under the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme and liaise with the Appointed Medical Advisor and external health providers.
  • Contribute to Health and Hygiene Management Plans, Health Risk Assessments and controls for occupational health hazards.
  • Analyse health and injury data to identify trends, inform priorities and improve outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide clear, timely advice to employees and leaders.
About you

You are an experienced health professional who builds trust, takes ownership and follows matters through to resolution. You can translate health information into practical workplace advice, navigate complex situations and develop suitable options within medical restrictions, professional standards and legislative requirements. You are comfortable having difficult conversations, explaining recommendations and seeking specialist advice when required.

You will bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in allied health, nursing, occupational health, occupational hygiene or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing workplace injuries, occupational rehabilitation or employee health matters.
  • Experience working with employers, treating practitioners, insurers and other stakeholders to achieve successful return-to-work outcomes.
  • Strong judgement, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence employees and operational leaders.

Experience in mining, heavy industry or another operational environment will be highly regarded. Previous underground mining experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong workplace health and rehabilitation experience. Knowledge of occupational hygiene and the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme will also be highly regarded.
