Job summary

SLR is seeking a Principal Geotechnical/Tailings engineer in Subiaco with 15+ years of experience to lead technically and client‑facing across tailings and mine waste projects. You will guide design, assessment, governance and closure, driving technical excellence and stakeholder engagement.

Ideal candidates bring extensive tailings knowledge, mastery of geotechnical methods, and a track record in leading multidisciplinary teams, while aligning with global standards and local Australian practice.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineer with substantial tailings/mine waste experience.
• Extensive Tailings Storage Facility design, assessment, construction and operational support.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, tailings behaviour and geotechnical engineering.
• Experience in slope stability, seepage, liquefaction, seismic assessment, numerical modelling, instrumentation and dam safety.
• Familiarity with GISTM, ANCOLD and relevant industry practice.
• Experience providing technical reviews and expert advice on complex geotechnical/tailings projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across tailings, mine waste and geotechnical projects.
• Lead and review design and assessment of tailings facilities and embankments.
• Offer senior input on stability, seepage, deformation, foundation, liquefaction and seismic analyses.
• Lead projects from concept through design, construction and closure.
• Provide technical review and assurance of analyses and design documentation.
• Support tailings governance, dam safety, risk management and operational readiness.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary inputs.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Support business development, proposals and strategic pursuits.
• Contribute to technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
