Job summary

GHD Group in Sydney (Artarmon) is seeking a Specialist Soil Testing Technician with advanced geotechnical testing experience to lead specialist laboratory testing within our geotechnical team.

The role offers opportunities to work on major projects across transport, energy and water, with training and support to progress to a specialist level while ensuring ISO/IEC 17025 and NATA compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience as a Specialist testing technician with advanced soil mechanics testing including triaxial, direct shear and consolidation testing.
• 10+ years’ experience in CMT and geotechnical testing aiming for specialist level.
• Certificate IV, Diploma, Associate Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Technology or Laboratory Science.
• Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 and NATA accreditation requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery, analysis and reporting of advanced geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
• Provide technical guidance as the laboratory's SME in advanced soil mechanics testing.
• Perform complex testing on soil, rock and aggregate samples, including triaxial, direct shear and consolidation testing.
• Ensure testing is delivered in line with ISO/IEC 17025, NATA accreditation, Australian Standards, client specs and internal quality systems.
• Maintain calibration records for laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with testing standards.
• Collaborate with the broader geoscience team to support high-quality project outcomes.
