A Senior Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist is sought to join a large Sydney geotechnical group. The role emphasizes personality, client communication, and leadership over pure technical execution.

You will manage multiple projects, lead tenders, and act as a primary client contact while guiding and mentoring the team. Expect a dynamic environment focused on project leadership, client relations, and commercial performance.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years' experience across geotechnical investigations, design and/or construction supervision.
• Strong project management and commercial skills.
• Chartered or working towards it would be ideal.
• Excellent verbal communication skills; confident with clients and leading others.

Job description

I'm recruiting a Senior Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join a large and well-established Sydney geotechnical group.

For this one, personality and communication skills are going to matter.

I'm looking for someone who's technically strong, but importantly is confident talking to clients, proactive and has a bit of a character. Someone who can build relationships, pick up the phone and have a conversation rather than hiding behind emails and reports.

This isn't really a "doer" role - it's a leadership role.

You'll be:

• Managing multiple geotechnical projects at once - scope, resources, programme, budget and delivery.
• Looking after larger tenders and proposals.
• Acting as a key contact for clients, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Reviewing technical work and providing direction rather than doing everything yourself.
• Mentoring and coordinating engineers within the team.
• Juggling multiple priorities and taking ownership without needing someone constantly telling you what to do.

Ideally you'll have around 8-12 years' experience across geotechnical investigations, design and/or construction supervision, along with strong project management and commercial skills. Chartered or working towards it would be ideal.

The big thing though - you need excellent verbal communication skills. Someone confident, personable and comfortable dealing with clients and leading others.

There's a strong pipeline of infrastructure, road and building projects, and it's a good opportunity for someone wanting to move further into project leadership, clients and commercial management rather than being buried in day-to-day site work.
