Job summary

The Recruitment Hive is seeking a Senior Gen Developer for a federal government agency to lead software design and development of complex solutions.

You will provide technical leadership, guide engineers, and ensure releases, maintenance and security standards across projects. This long-term, 12-month contract offers flexible work across ACT and other states with potential extensions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Gen development.
• Proven ability to lead software projects and teams.
• Experience with COBOL, SOAP, RESTful APIs, and MQ messaging.
• Familiarity with Cuba or similar systems and Win32 application development.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

This is a unique, long-term opportunity to lead and create software and technical designs for the realisation of highly complex development solutions.

Key Responsibilities of the Gen Developer, will include:

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of software engineers, ensuring high standards of code quality and performance;
• Develop and implement strategies for long-term code base maintenance and software lifecycle management;
• Conduct high-level analysis of technical requirements to inform project evaluation and solution development;
• Coordinate software releases, production support, and ongoing maintenance activities;
• Ensure compliance with established software development methodologies and security standards;
• Investigate and resolve complex ICT issues related to software development and production environments;
• Engage with stakeholders and partner agencies to enhance service delivery capability and project outcomes;
• Contribute to strategic workforce planning and drive initiatives to improve team performance and engagement;
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, briefs, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Gen development.
• Proven ability to lead software projects and teams effectively.
• Experience with COBOL programming, SOAP and RESTful API development, and MQ messaging protocols.
• Familiarity with Cuba or similar systems and Win32 application development are highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
