Job summary

Peoplebank, part of RGF Staffing ANZ, is seeking a Senior Full Stack Java Developer for a Federal Government client in Canberra. This long-term contract includes an initial 12-month term with two 12-month extension options and requires on-site work in ACT.

You will design, develop, test, deploy and support scalable Java applications, lead end-to-end technical delivery, and mentor teams in secure coding and best practices.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience building enterprise Java apps with Spring, JPA/Hibernate and Maven.
• Backend services, REST APIs and microservices design experience.
• Experience with distributed systems and data platforms (Kafka, NiFi, Elasticsearch).
• Strong security and performance optimization knowledge.
• Experience with SQL databases (Oracle or PostgreSQL) and NoSQL concepts.
• Git, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practices.
• Ability to lead technical outcomes in complex environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and support secure, scalable and high-availability full-stack Java applications, APIs, microservices and distributed data solutions.
• Take end-to-end ownership of technical solutions from requirements through to deployment, production support and continuous improvement.
• Lead technical design, architecture, integration and engineering activities across distributed systems, data platforms and cloud-hosted environments.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct root-cause analysis and optimise system performance.
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Support planning, estimation, prioritisation and delivery activities.
• Drive improvements in reliability, security, operational resilience and software quality.

About the Role:

Our Federal Government client is seeking a Senior Full Stack Java Developer.

This is a long-term contract role with an initial 12-month contract, plus 2 x 12-month extension options, located in ACT. This role requires candidates to primarily work onsite in Canberra.

As The Selected Candidate, You Will

• Design, develop, test, deploy and support secure, scalable and high-availability full-stack Java applications, APIs, microservices and distributed data solutions.

To Be Successful In This Role You Should Have

• Minimum 7 years' experience developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate and Maven.
• Strong experience developing backend services, REST APIs, integrations and modern web applications.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing microservices, event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Experience with enterprise-scale data platforms and technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi and Elasticsearch.
• Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, secure coding and performance optimisation.
• Experience with SQL databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL and understanding of NoSQL concepts.
• Knowledge of Git version control, Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevSecOps practices.
• Ability to independently lead technical outcomes and operate effectively in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and problem-solving skills.

It Is Desirable If You Have

• Experience with Azure cloud services and cloud-native architecture patterns.
• Linux administration experience.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Front-end development experience using Angular, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3.
• Experience with AI-assisted software engineering tools.
• Knowledge of modern observability platforms and cloud-native operating models.

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian citizens with Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
