Job summary

Gilmour Space is seeking a Senior Flight Dynamics Engineer to design and implement flight-critical software for rocket systems delivering satellites to orbit. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop, analyse, test and operate launch vehicles and subsystems, ensuring high-reliability flight.

You will lead the GNC discipline, drive V&V activities, and integrate with avionics, propulsion, and mission operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Aerospace / Aeronautical / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM field.
• 4+ years in GNC, Flight Software, or robotics design engineering roles.
• Proven ability to lead and collaborate in fast-paced teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop linear and non-linear models of control system dynamics for launch vehicles.
• Iterate flight algorithms for navigation, guidance and control.

Follow and participate in product development processes, including requirements definition, design, verification, and validation. Represent the GNC discipline in program reviews, technical exchanges, and stakeholder briefings. Establish best practices for GNC verification and validation (V&V), including hardware-in-the-loop testing, Monte Carlo simulations, and operational rehearsals. Integrate GNC subsystems with avionics, software, mechanical, propulsion, and mission operations teams to ensure system‑level performance and reliability. Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing GNC team. Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to company policies, plans, and procedures and fulfill other duties as requested by management. Technical: Developing linear and non-linear models of control system plant dynamics and effectors for launch vehicles. Iterating and improving upon the existing flight algorithm stack for navigation, guidance and control. Drive continuous improvement of tools, automation, and analytical pipelines supporting design, analysis, and operations. Analysing performance, stability and robustness of flight algorithms. Mission design and optimisation of launch vehicle trajectories. Designing and implementing simulation and visualisation tools Using numerical methods to propagate complex uncertainty models (e.g. Monte Carlo methods). Conducting analyses and design studies for future vehicles in a multi-disciplinary team. Characterising the natural environments for launch vehicles including wind and space radiation. Applying data analysis techniques to validate models from test data.

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree in Physics or Aerospace / Aeronautical / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM degree.
• 4+ years of experience in professional GNC, Flight Software or robotics design engineering settings (excluding internships).
• Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, demonstrating resilience in high-stress situations and a supportive approach with team members.
• Demonstrated experience with programming in Python, MATLAB, or other high-level languages.
• Demonstrated experience with low-level development language (e.g. C++, C).
• Experience with git workflowsor equivalent version control system.
• Experience with software verification and validation, as well as working in a continuous integration environment.
• Experience working within a Systems Engineering framework.
• Ability to obtain NV1 Security Clearance.
