Job summary

Jacobs in Sydney is seeking a Senior-Associate Fire Safety Engineer to lead fire engineering for landmark projects. You will develop performance-based designs, guide junior engineers, and coordinate with MEP/design teams to balance regulatory compliance with architectural vision and client objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in fire safety engineering within building services/consulting in Australia.
• CPEng, NPER, or eligibility for Chartered status with Engineers Australia (highly regarded).
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage projects and teams effectively.
• Current Australian working rights.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire safety strategies and performance solutions per NCC, Australian Standards, and Fire Engineering Guidelines.
• Conduct fire risk assessments, fire and smoke modelling (FDS, Pathfinder, PyroSim), evacuation analysis, and structural fire protection assessments.
• Design and specify active and passive fire protection systems including detection, suppression, smoke control, and compartmentation.
• Provide expert fire engineering advice to architects, clients, certifiers and authorities.
• Prepare detailed fire engineering reports and FSERs for DA and Construction Certificates.
• Lead technical reviews, peer reviews, and value engineering exercises.
• Mentor and develop junior/intermediate fire engineers within the team.
• Collaborate with broader MEP/hydraulic teams on integrated building services solutions.
