Job summary

National Intermodal Corporation Ltd in Sydney CBD NSW is seeking a Senior Financial Modeller to join our Commercial team. You will develop and maintain financial models underpinning business cases, feasibility studies and major investments across intermodal precincts.

This role requires genuine commercial acumen, the ability to translate complex analysis into clear insights for non-financial stakeholders, and collaboration with Finance, Strategy, Delivery and Procurement teams.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, with CA/CPA/CIMA or equivalent.
• Significant experience building and maintaining complex financial models in corporate/infrastructure environments.
• Commercially astute with ability to assess scenarios and costs-to-go.
• Advanced Excel modelling, including three-way models and scenario analyses.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance integrated financial models for major projects and capital investments.
• Prepare financial analyses to support investment decisions and business cases.
• Undertake scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis and stress testing.
• Partner with Finance, Strategy, Delivery, Commercial and Procurement teams to validate assumptions.
• Prepare modelling outputs, summaries and materials for senior leadership and Board reporting.

About the role:

National Intermodal is seeking a Senior Financial Modeller to join our Commercial team, based in our Sydney office. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will develop and maintain the financial models that underpin business case development, feasibility assessments and major investment decisions across our intermodal precincts. This is a role for someone with genuine commercial acumen, not just a technical modeller, but an astute analyst who can assess commercial and financial data, and use that analysis to elevate decision‑making across the business.

What you'll be doing:

• Developing, maintaining and enhancing integrated financial models for major projects, capital investments, business cases and long‑term planning activities, incorporating revenue, opex, capex, financing, cashflow, valuation, returns and sensitivity analysis.
• Preparing financial analysis to support project evaluation, investment decisions, funding submissions and business case development, including modelling cashflows, funding requirements, lifecycle costs and financial risk.
• Undertaking scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis and stress testing, and providing insight into affordability, value‑for‑money and commercial viability across a range of commercial scenarios.
• Partnering with Finance, Strategy, Delivery, Commercial and Procurement teams to validate assumptions, interpret outputs and translate complex analysis into clear, practical insight for non‑financial stakeholders.
• Preparing modelling outputs, summaries and decision‑support materials for senior leadership, executives and Board reporting.
• Identifying opportunities to improve modelling methods, reporting processes and automation, bringing a continuous improvement mindset and a willingness to uplift capability across the finance function.

About you:

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or related discipline, with CA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Significant experience building and maintaining complex financial models in a corporate, infrastructure, project finance, investment, advisory or commercial environment.
• A commercially astute analyst, comfortable assessing and analysing various commercial scenarios and cost‑to‑go positions, with the judgement to identify what genuinely moves the needle for the business.
• Advanced Excel modelling capability, including integrated three‑way models, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and model auditing.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, cashflow forecasting, valuation methods and investment metrics.
• Highly developed analytical and problem‑solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Clear, confident communication style, with the ability to influence stakeholders and present complex analysis simply.
• Ability to leverage AI‑enabled technologies to improve modelling efficiency, insight generation and decision support.
• Experience in infrastructure, logistics, construction, property, energy or other capital‑intensive sectors is preferred.
